Pharmacological effect: Valtrex is an antiviral medicine. It stops the growth of viruses of different types like herpes simplex, varicella zoster and cytomegalovirus.
Usage: Valtrex is used in treatment of shingles, HSV skin infections and genital herpes. It also treats cold symptoms and prevents infection with CMV.
Aftereffect: Call the doctor and stop using Valtrex if you have the following reactions: headache, giddiness, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, itching, photosensitivity, feeling sick or confused, hallucinations, tremors and agitation.
How to administer (optionally): The dosage is based on your age and the infection. Children usually use 500mg one or two times a day in the infections with HSV. To treat shingles use 1000mg tablets 2 or 3 times a day.
