Vagifem Information

Vagifem is a vaginal hormone drug and is used for treating vaginal discomfort in women. This drug works by enhancing the moisture levels in the vagina, thereby providing relief from vaginal discomfort. Ideally, this medication takes about two weeks before it starts to show any results. Since this drug is a female estradiol hormone, it is given to those women who can no longer produce the same levels of estrogen as prior to menopause. This medication is also used to effectively decrease the symptoms of vaginal menopause like dryness, burning or itching. 

Vagifem Side Effects and Precautions

When Vagifem or Estradiol is used, it can lead to a few side effects like vaginal spotting, vaginal discharge, skin rash, etc. This generic medication can also cause some serious side effects like breast pain, breast tenderness, head ache, bloating of stomach, cramps, depression, vision changes, breathlessness, bleeding, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, hot flashes, vaginitis and insomnia. 

Do not use Vagifem or Estradiol if you are allergic to it or any other medication. Since this drug may interact with other medications, discuss your entire medical history with your doctor. Also inform if you are under any medication currently. Avoid using this drug if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Likewise, breast feeding women also should avoid using this medication. Similarly, do not use this drug if you suffer from vaginal bleeding or suffer from cancer of the uterus.
